Why Ride the Wave

Ourmission.

Ride the Wave enables young people aged 14 to 23 who are feeling stuck or ready for a fresh start to experience what surfing can bring: relaxation, confidence, friendship and a new perspective on themselves and the world around them.

Why go surfing?

A newwave of energy.

Sport gets you moving. Surfing does something extra: the sea demands your attention, the water clears your mind, and every wave invites you to try again. You learn to fall, get back up and trust in what you can do.

Ride the Wave makes this experience accessible to young people aged 14 to 23 who are feeling stuck or are ready for a fresh start. In a safe group setting, with dedicated coaches and without the pressure to perform, they work step by step on their mental and physical wellbeing, forming new friendships and building a connection with nature.

Fun comes first. Because when you’re having fun, it creates space to relax, learn and look to the future again.

Three goals · one movement

What drivessurfing.

Ride the Wave uses surfing as a means to an end. Not to turn everyone into the best surfer, but to help young people feel stronger, freer and more connected.

01 · Head

Mental health

On the water, there is less room for distractions. Surfing helps participants to relax, experience a sense of achievement and regain confidence in themselves and others. The group provides an environment for self-awareness, friendship and a sense of belonging.

  • Relaxation
  • Self-confidence
  • Awareness
  • Friendship

02 · Body

Physical health

Surfing gets the whole body moving. Participants build up their fitness, strength, balance and flexibility at their own pace. Through play, they get to know their bodies better and experience the benefits of regular exercise.

  • Fitness
  • Strength
  • Balance & flexibility
  • Exercise on land and in the water

03 · Connection

Soul Surfer

A soul surfer feels connected to the sea, nature and the people around them. Participants learn to take the elements into account, to work together respectfully and to find their own place. Anyone who wishes to do so can later pass on their experience to others.

  • Awareness of the sea
  • A love of nature
  • Respect for one another
  • Passing on experience

Nothing is compulsory. Anything goes. It’s up to you how far.

The aim is not for every participant to reach the same end point. For some, simply going to the beach for the first time is a huge step. Others make new friends, feel physically and mentally stronger, or take steps towards returning to school or work.

And what if you can’t be pried out of the water? Then, within Ride the Wave, you can progress to become a certified instructor and perhaps one day help a new participant get started. That would be fantastic – but it’s not a must. Your journey is your own.

When doesyour story begin?

Impact can begin in two ways: by stepping into the water yourself, or by letting someone else take the first wave.
